Laser Dentistry – Laser Gum Contouring

Advances in laser technology enable treatments such as gum lifting to be more comfortable and effective than ever before. Whereas in the past gum lifting was performed with a scalpel, the procedure is now performed using laser dentistry. Dr. Cooper utilizes laser dentistry to target the treatment area more accurately and to reduce or eliminate the soreness often caused by the scalpel in traditional gum lifting surgery.

Laser dentistry technology is also used to identify cavities, remove plaque and decay, and treat damaged gums. Dr. Michael Cooper is highly regarded by his patients and among his peers as a skilled laser dentist, and he uses this advanced technology whenever possible to shorten recovery times, reduce discomfort, and improve results. For more information about this advanced technology, we invite you to schedule a consultation with our laser dentist at our practice in Russellville, Arkansas. Many patients who have neglected or postponed treatment due to dental anxiety find that the laser dentistry technology is far superior to the drill and other traditional methods that they may remember from their childhoods.

Oral Cancer Screening System

According to the National Cancer Institute, hundreds of thousands of Americans have been diagnosed with oral cancer or cancer of the pharynx or throat. If this condition is not detected until its later stages, chemotherapy and radiation treatments can often result in the individual losing his or her sense of taste. In other instances, the patient can develop conditions that make it difficult to eat, swallow, or speak. In severe cases, when surgery is required to remove oral cancer, then the patient may become disfigured.

Our state-of-the-art oral cancer screening system, VELscope®, is able to detect signs of this disease in its earliest stages so that patients can receive treatment right away and avoid the likelihood of adverse side effects. We screen for oral cancer during our comprehensive dental exams.

Intraoral Camera

The intraoral camera is a tiny instrument that is used to take pictures of the inside of a patient’s mouth. These images are displayed on a computer monitor and enable Dr. Cooper to show the patient specific areas of his or her mouth that require attention. Patients can clearly see the areas they should focus on as they brush and floss at home, and the images are also used to help plan advanced cosmetic and restorative dentistry treatments.

Digital and Panoramic X-Rays

Digital and panoramic x-rays are additional tools that are used to educate patients about their oral health and the treatment possibilities that are available to them. These x-rays are much more comfortable and convenient than traditional x-rays; in addition, they emit much less radiation.

Nitrous Oxide

For patients who have dental anxiety or who simply want a more pleasant experience at the dentist’s office, we offer nitrous oxide, otherwise known as laughing gas. Nitrous oxide can be used by itself or in conjunction with other types of anesthesia to ensure that the patient is in a deep state of relaxation during treatment.

Office Computer Network

Our patients also benefit from a state-of-the-art office computer network that helps us provide on-time treatments and enables Dr. Cooper to display digital x-rays and intraoral images immediately during consultations and exams. Our advanced technology is just one of many reasons why patients choose our practice and continue to receive treatment with us year after year. Many of our patients have provided testimonials to share their positive experiences at our practice.
